The mission of Resources for Human Development (RHD) is to provide caring, effective, efficient, and innovative services that help people overcome obstacles and build better lives for themselves, their families, and their communities. Since 1970, RHD's multi-faceted programs have served people with a variety of challenges including developmental disabilities, mental illness, substance abuse, poverty, and homelessness. In addition to the human services it provides, RHD operates programs aimed at effecting lasting social change through economic and community development. |

PROGRAM PURPOSE AND PHILOSOPHY RIST Ocean County (Residential Intensive Support Team) provides the services needed to maintain independent living with community integration for individuals experiencing homelessness, chemical dependence and mental illness. RIST fosters a nurturing atmosphere of trust, support, independence, and safety. It is a program that facilitates growth by building trust between the staff and the consumers. The goal is to support and encourage the development of life skills required to sustain successful living in the community. The RIST program is based on RHD's common belief that by responding to the basic good and strength in people, we create our best opportunity for maximizing positive individual commitment and responsibility. This approach applies to staff, consumers and families alike. |
PROGRAM GOALS It is the goal of RHD RIST to: * Assist persons with psychiatric disabilities to live as independently as possible through the provision of training and assistance in the skills of community living, and by serving as an integrating focus for the individual's rehabilitation. * Provide the least restrictive alternative as appropriate to each individual, only for so long as the services are consistent with the individual's need for services. * Provide permanent housing alternatives in a community setting environment which will allow for the opportunity to learn the skills necessary for more independent living. Within this setting we will provide each consumer with the maximum possible autonomy, independence and self-determination. This program will constantly strive to empower consumers to relocate to less restrictive living arrangement. * Consult consumers and their families in the development and review of program policies and procedures. |
